While i agree the champions league is as much a hindrance as is it is a help, but the money it generates is NEEDED.

Haha! This is such a bitter and petty piece. I hope you're trolling... because I'm embarrassed. What should he have done? Score 3 own goals? (then you'd probably still complain).

Man U has been way better than us over the years. Won more, spent better, and have played better (sometimes with arguably poorer players). We only have ourselves to blame. We've had no ambition, spent poorly and now play ugly football to (only sometimes) beat poor opposition.

RVP moved to a better club, not to sit on the bench like Nasri, but heck he owned Rooney's spot, won a premier league medal and got golden boot. He gets paid better too because he deserves it. He could have gotten even more $$$ at Man City but turned them down.

His reaction was not hollow it was classy (as opposed to say the other extreme Adebayor). He had to take the penalty, he's a professional and it was his (new) job.

The sooner we get back our ambition in the transfer market the better. Stop settling for qualification in a tournament we cannot win, (and actually get humiliated in). Hating people with a winning mentality who leave us? WASTE OF TIME.

Yeah this just looks like desperate grovelling from what I've read. He's done more in terms of success in 1 year at Man Utd than in 8 at Arsenal, and he'll still have another 3 or 4 left at least. You say 'fall into the category of Cole, Nasri etc', but the fact is is that Cole, Nasri, Clichy, Van Persie, Fabregas, Song, Adebayor, Hleb, Viera, Henry, Toure and Reyes have all gone off and won things (in many cases, several things), and you've won bugger all. 7 or 8 years down the line, when Jack Wilshire only has a solitary League cup to his name, then he'll leave too. Financial situation. FACT OF FOOTBALL: SPEND ON PLAYERS, OR NOT WIN TROPHIES. When Arsenal grasp this, you will start winning.

i don't agree with this view that everyone would leave to a better paid job.... if i was being paid ( a heafty sum already )by a company that suported me through injury and was respected as a captain and by millions of fans, i don't think i would move on especially if i blantantly owed a debt to the company.

The so called guard of honour for United was another hollow gesture .
The booing of Van Pursestrings only made the other United players more determined to try not to lose the game. All in all a very tedius affair , and two points dropped,rather than one gained.
We have dropped 4 points at home so far in this current unbeaten run,and we can't afford another draw against Wigan, and that game could be a bit harder to win than some may think that it is.

I'm not a fan of goal celebrations to begin with. I find them for the most part individually (vice team) motivated and they waste time.
That said, given they way he left in July, given they way he "almost" went into dressing room by "mistake", and given that he still went after the game (something about the food being better), he has shown that *everything* he does is self-serving. There is no doubt in my mind that his out-of-the-ordinary non-celebratory goal was intended for nothing other than his own glory, and his own self-reassurance.
The bottom line is if it bothered him that much to score against his old team (and I'm sure he thought it was *his* team), I think he shouldn't have even played let alone taken the penalty shot in the first place. If you're that morally conflicted, then why bother to put yourself in the inevitable position in the first place.

I dont know...it can be viewed as a sign of respect, acknowledging that your former club meant a lot to you and your development as a former player. Arsenal fans might not have a lot of love for Van Persie, but its clear he still respects the club and its supporters enough not to run and celebrate...even its more for the player than the fans...having said that, I can understand the seemingly hollow gesture especially if the player promised love and allegiance to his former club during his time there...

Why did he have to take it? if he did respect us and the years we put up with him being injured, ill disciplined and at one occasion even accused of rape, he would have let phil jones take it or miss it himself as United had nothing to play for.
